Why Play Rugby at JMU

No Experience Required

Bring cleats and a mouth guard. No cleats? Come in sneakers. Every skill level is welcome, and 15 to 20 new players joined last fall.

Two Seasons, One Club

Fifteens in the fall, Sevens in the spring. A full calendar, two codes, and a more complete player by the end of it.

Real Competition

JMU plays in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference. Last fall the Varsity made the MARC playoffs and fell three points short of advancing.

Coached Four Days a Week

Conditioning Monday and Wednesday. Practice Tuesday and Thursday. Walkthrough Friday. Match Saturday. Four coaches, led by Dr. Mark Fowler.

Alumni Who Actually Show Up

The Alumni Association and John Carr Fund have put more than $280,000 into this program in five years, including two scholarships for players.

A Network for Life

Fifty years of Madison Rugby in the Shenandoah Valley, and a 52nd Alumni Reunion this October. The brotherhood outlasts the degree.
