JMU Men's Rugby Club braved a Nor'easter on the long trip north and came away with a comfortable 62-7 win at Rutgers on Saturday, a welcome road result in Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference play.
Hooker Andrew Ringel was the story of the afternoon. He crossed for five tries and took Man of the Match, leading a JMU pack that wore Rutgers down over 80 minutes. Preston Francois was reliable off the tee, kicking eight conversions.
There was plenty to like across the side. Logan Edler ran hard and direct all afternoon, and JJ Tiago put in a tireless shift on both sides of the ball. Freshman Ryan Chambers impressed in the second row on his First XV debut, a promising sign of the depth building through the season.
Rutgers did not make it easy. The hosts battled to the end and made life difficult with committed defense, but the win was ground out up front, where the JMU forwards put in the work to close it out on the road.

The 52nd Annual Reunion is in Harrisonburg, with the men's alumni game on Saturday's card between the A-side and B-side matches. Registration is open and the hotel block closes September 30.
